filson tin cloth cruiser jacket

filsoncruiser

denim jackets are a fall staple, but if you don’t think you can pull one off, consider this short cruiser jacket from filson.  it’s the perfect alternative to a levi’s trucker jacket.  it’s made from filson’s tough tin cloth with an oil finish which means it’s going to be stiff for the first several wears, but don’t be discouraged.  it will break in nicely and become one of your favorites in no time.

1964 ford mustang convertible

i’ve never been a car guy.  i have way too many other hobbies to be a “car guy.”  i couldn’t tell you the difference between this year’s model or that year’s model or this engine or whatever.  you get the point.  what i can tell you is when i like something and what i like is old cars i.e. american made badass indestructible machines of awesomeness.  i’m currently obsessed in love with 1964 ford mustang convertibles.  i grabbed these pics from mustang attitude.  look at this beauty.  i don’t know when i’ll get around to owning one of these whips, but a boy can dream, right?

fall wish list: suede chelsea boots

mashchelsea1

fall is just around the corner.  fall is just around the corner.  fall is just around the corner.  if i say it enough, then maybe it will get here sooner.  it’s been 98º this weekend in nashville.  i’ve had enough.  it’s time for fall.  first thing on my fall wish list is a pair of suede chelsea boots like these from sid mashburn.  these particular boots have been on my wish list for a couple of years now, but the time feels right to finally make the purchase.  the plan is to hit atlanta sometime in september (braves game anyone?).  these will be coming back with me.

happy anniversary

thebeatlesbow

today is the 4 year anniversary of to take the train.  this photo of the beatles was one of the first things i posted.  i had this theory that if i posted (and tagged) pictures of things that would get traffic, then people would come.  it didn’t quite work out that way, but that’s ok because i had help from a couple of friends (thank you valetesquire, and every other site than linked or mentioned this blog).

it’s been such an amazing 4 years since i started to take the train.  i’ve gone through some major life changes, i’ve met some good friends (that i hope to meet in person one day), and i’ve had a place to write – which is something i love to do.  i realize i don’t write as much as i used to, but that’s about to change.  it’s a part of me i can’t deny.

all that to say…THANK YOU (first uppercase letters ever used on to take the train) to everyone who has ever read a post or clicked on this blog.  it means a lot to me that you would take the time to stop and read or view ramblings from a person that you don’t know.  i’m excited about the next 4 years.  i think they’re going to be some of my best.  let’s see how long i can keep this thing going.

i + w candle

ipluswcandle

i have a dog.  she smells awful 35% of the time.  it’s not my fault.  i’m not the one that instructs her to roll around in dirt and s**t (literally – wtf is wrong with her) and pine needles.  a couple of weeks ago, my lady and i were entertaining another couple for dinner and she asked me get a candle for my stinky house.  i knew exactly what to buy.

if you’ve ever been to imogene + willie in nashville, then you know it’s one of the best smelling stores around.  and the best part is that they sell their scent in the form of one badass looking candle.  i’m not gonna lie, it’s pricey at $55, but it’s well worth it.  i burn that s**t every night.  in fact, it’s burning right now.  you can order one here.  just do it.  no chick likes a stinky house.

hey, i’m on instagram!

well, i bit the bullet and created an instagram account for to take the train (it’s totakethetrain_).  the goal is to keep the blog going on social media since i haven’t done an excellent job of updating to take the train in 2014.  (i promise i’ll do better.)  i went down to the billy reid shindig this past weekend and had every intention of taking a million photos for the newly christened instagram account, but these were the only 4 i posted.  it was a shame too because it was a baller weekend.  i’ll definitely be going back next year.  in the meantime, if you’re looking for a new instagram account to follow, click here and do it.  you won’t be dissapointed – at least not for a little while i hope.

for fall: new balance crt300

summer is winding down (or at least i hope it is.  it’s way too damn hot outside).  i’m ready for the fall.  i like everything about the fall i.e. football, european football, baseball playoffs, cooler weather, whiskey, tailgates, jackets (i was a fat kid growing up), more football.  you get the picture.  one thing you’re going to need for all this fall goodness is a pair of transition kicks.  enter the new balance crt300.  it’s a suede and mesh retro looking tennis shoe featuring new balance’s revlite soul technology (it means they’re super light, ya dingus).  i’m a big fan of this weird looking blue, but if you’re not digging it, more colorways are available at newbalance.com.
