on sale: the i+w jack canvas utility coat

iwcanvascoat

you gotta love the changing of the seasons.  a lot of the time that means sales.  imogene and willie has been trying to unload some of their inventory this week.  the jack canvas utility coat is currently marked down from $265 to $165.  that’s a savings of a $100 to you and me.  they’re out of smalls, but everything else is in stock.  better act fast.

another ledbury plug

“they’re such beautiful shirts,” she sobbed, her voice muffled in the thick folds.  “it makes me sad because i’ve never seen such – such beautiful shirts before.”

-f. scott fitzgerald, the great gatsby

the other day my brother-in-law asked me for recommendations on a dress shirt.  the only one that came to mind was ledbury.  since i discovered ledbury, i haven’t bought anything but.  i had a lady come to my office and try to fit me in one of those made-to-fit brands and i told her it would take an act of congress for me to change brands.

i believe as you get older, you find brands you like and you stick with them.  my dad doesn’t buy anything but polo and brooks brothers.  it works for him.  in my limited time on this earth, i’ve found that ledbury dress shirts fit me the best.  one way i can tell they’re working for me is from the amount of compliments i get when i’m wearing one.  the blue shirt with the navy dots in the top right of this post averages 3 compliments per wear – true story – and that makes me feel good.

i’m not saying you should only buy ledbury shirts from here on out (you can if you want to).  what i’m saying is that when it comes to something as classic as a dress shirt, find a brand or two that you like and stick with them.  and be sure to buy quality, because they’ll last a lot longer.

if you’ve been sleeping under a rock and would like a little more info on ledbury, click here.  or if you want the cliffs notes, here you go: great story.  great brand.  great price.  great quality.

editor’s note: my father informed me last night that he now only buys ledbury shirts.  my apologies to brooks brothers and polo for the misinformation.

required listening: the good, the bad and the ugly soundtrack

goodbad

is there an album that makes you feel more like a badass than this album?  the answer is no.  i had surgery a month ago and was laid up for almost a week.  during my couch stint, i revisited the man with no name trilogy and it made me realize what an unbelievable composer ennio morricone is.

my first exposure to the good, the bad and the ugly was in 8th grade when one of our close family friends let me watch it with him.  he was a couple of years older than me and i thought he was the coolest dude ever i.e. whatever he liked i liked.  i asked for the soundtrack for my birthday and my parents delivered.

you don’t have to have to see the movie to appreciate the film score.  you’ve probably heard most of it in the hipster coffee shop you frequent on weekdays.  you know what i’m talking about.  it’s that music mixed with gunfire, whistling and yodeling that stops and makes you wish you were riding to work on a horse – guns at your side – instead of your toyota prius.  you can’t miss it.  it’s one of a kind and should be in your collection.

FOR A FEW DOLLARS MORE

lacoste for j. crew

jcrewlacoste

interesting collaboration we got going on here.  my first thought was why the hell do we need a j. crew and lacoste collaboration.  i love j. crew (obviously) and lacoste is all i wore in college (they used to be hard to find – seriously), but this partnership seemed unnecessary until i read further.  what they’ve done is added a retro logo (dig it), notched the tennis tail (necessary), and updated to a slim fit (boom goes the dynamite).  this is a shirt i can get behind for the spring.  see you on the court, winthorpe.

guys, it’s almost beach time.  i’m headed to the promised land (30a beaches) in 2 months which means i have 2 months (duh) to get my fat ass in shape.  i’m probably one of the last people you should listen to when it comes to fitness advice – mainly because i can’t quit eating pancakes and drinking miller lite – but i have dropped 30 lbs since i got divorced and i feel f’ing great.  i’m going to go ahead and insert the “read more” tab, so if you’re interested in reading about what you can do to get in above average shape, read on.    Continue reading
