nike lunar control 4 golf shoes

nikelunar4.1

my golf blog didn’t really take off.  i didn’t realize it at the time, but blogging about golf is pretty damn hard.  it would also be a full time job and i have a job and don’t want to lose that one.  i’m going to combine the two blogs and occasionally throw up some golf stuff on here.  i hope you don’t mind.

yesterday nike released their new lunar control golf shoe (which should be called “the rory” but whatever it’s not up to me).  i absolutely love them.  i bought a pair of lunar control 3s this summer and they are the ultimate in comfort and function.  these are apparently lighter and more comfortable with improved cleats (or spikes if you will).  they also feature an extra large swoosh across the front.  be prepared to see a lot of these when the weather gets warm.

filson vermonter flask

filsonflask

file this under things you don’t need because it’s way too expensive ($325) to treat yo self, but if someone gave it to you as a gift, you would be really excited to receive it because it’s awesome.  you are looking at a filson flask, but it’s not just any flask.  it’s made out of copper and according to filson it’s leakproof.  it’s also wrapped in tin cloth and bridle leather for “durability and added grip” – which you will probably need after consuming 3/4 of its contents.

style icon: jean paul belmondo

JPB1

in college, i took a class on cinema and we watched several french films.  jean-luc godard’s breathless was on that list.  if you haven’t seen that movie and have patience for subtitles, i highly recommend it.  it was the start of french new wave cinema and jean paul belmondo’s breakthrough role.

one of my main takeaways from breathless was “f**k! this dude (belmondo) is cool.”  belmondo exemplifies french style in the 60’s – a kind of effortless look that would look like you were trying too hard today.  belmondo wasn’t necessarily good looking, but had a natural confidence about him that translated to the way he wore his tweed jackets, trilby hats and silk socks with loafers.  dude always looked like he didn’t give a s**t.  and if you want to know where your pants should meet your shoes, belmondo provides a good example: keep it on the short side (thom brown knows what’s up).  oh, and one last thing, anna karina is a total babe.

north face for j. crew mountain jacket

NF1

and while we’re on the subject of fratty (see below post)…j. crew has partnered with north face for the re-release of its “iconic” mountain jacket.  i’ll be honest, this jacket looks like every other north face jacket i’ve ever owned, but j. crew’s website tells me it’s a lot different i.e. it has reinforced shoulders like the one from 1985 and longer zipper pulls.  ok, if you say so j. crew.

patagonia bivy vest

patagoniavest

a couple of weeks ago, one of my girl friends ditched her tinder date because he was wearing a vest.  i can’t say i blame her.  if i was meeting a girl for the first time, i might have tried a little harder.  maybe it wasn’t the right kind of vest?  no, she hates all vests.  they’re too fratty.

i, for one, love a good vest.  the weather in nashville has been too warm to wear one lately, but that’s not going to stop me.  i’m the real rebel every damn day (wesley willis quote for those so inclined).  this vest season, i’m going with the patagonia bivy down vest.  the video on the website says it’s in its element for “chopping wood, loading the boat or checking the surf.”  that means it’s perfect for me because i do all of those things on the reg.

women we appreciate: the women of tumblr (part 3)

wt1.jpg

i may be in the minority here, but i love the way women dress in the fall.  for my money, there is nothing sexier than a women in a nice pair of jeans (or leather pants for that matter).  it’s been a year since i’ve done a women we appreciate post.  we’ll call this one “women we appreciate: the women of tumblr (part 3 – fall edition).”  it has a nice ring to it.  none of these photos are mine, so i apologize for using them without permission.  if it’s yours and you want credit or for me to take it down, let me know.  thank you women of tumblr for being such smoke shows.  if any of you are single, holla at ya boy.

sometimes you wear tailored stretchy pants

the sweatpants thing won’t go away.  you might as well give in.  i gave in.  i own a pair.  in fact, i may buy another pair this year.  the thing is when you’re a man, sometimes you wear (tailored) stretchy pants in your room or to the grocery store or to the bar (if you don’t give a rip).  here are a few of my favorites:

required listening: t. rex electric warrior

trex

you know the song “bang a gong (get it on)?”  yeah, you do.  you’ve heard it every time there’s been a trailer for a movie about a 1970’s football or basketball team.  it would be hard not to put said song in said trailer because it sounds like the 70’s.  and if you knew nothing about t. rex and marc bolan, it would be easy to write off t. rex as some sort of gimmicky music from a forgotten era, but that’s not the case.

i bought electric warrior after hearing “jeepster” in tarantino’s movie death proof.  tarantino knows his music.  i figured if we was down with t. rex, then i should be too.  i had low expectations.  i’ve never liked the music of the 70’s or glam rock.  man was i wrong.

electric warrior gets better every time i throw it on the record player or in my car.  it’s full of catchy guitar hooks and trippy lyrics.  there’s a depth to this record – a feel to it – that’s hard to describe.  here’s a good analogy: have you ever had a sip of a stiegl beer on a spring day?  well, it sounds like that beer tastes (if that makes sense).  it’s party music for people that like to wear their sunglasses inside.  normally, i would call those folks assholes, but if t. rex was on, i would call them the coolest people in the room.

still not sold?  check out these jamz and get back to me: “mambo sun,” “cosmic dancer,” “jeepster,” “life’s a gas,” and “the motivator.”  if you don’t feel like you’re flying after listening to those songs, then i can’t help you.  electric warrior is this month’s required listening.  recommended on vinyl.  the ladies will love it.

dating again (part 3.5)

lately when i think about dating, this scene from best in show keeps popping into my head.  “we met at starbucks.  not at the same starbucks, but we saw each other at different starbucks across from each other.”

dating is miserable.  it’s become one of those things that i am starting to hate.  i used to think i was good at it – that i had it down to some sort of science, but no longer.  it’s confusing and complicated and unfulfilling.  look, i don’t mean to sound like a complete pessimist, but i would argue that in today’s time period dating is harder than it’s ever been.  let me explain why… Continue reading

sid mashburn moto jacket

sidmoto

i need a new leather jacket.  i’m currently selling my old one on ebay (long story).  this motorcycle jacket from sid mashburn is the perfect candidate to replace the other one.  the write-up on sid’s website said they were tired of searching for the “perfect” leather jacket, so they made their own.  it’s brown cowhide (obviously) rather than black which means it goes with more things in your closet.  it’s also slim fit with no chest pockets to give it more of a tailored look.  i like it.  i just need the old jacket to go ahead and sell so i can jump on this one before they sell out (it’s a limited run).
