the perfect beach bag

i’m currently in summer vacation mode.  i need to hit the beach sooner than later.  one thing that’s essential for the beach is a good beach bag like this filson oil finished tote bag.  i’ve mentioned it a couple of times now, because it’s the perfect size to accommodate your towel, sunscreen, book, and a beer or two.

holiday gift idea: filson tote bag

i can’t believe it’s december 7th.  i’m behind in my christmas shopping as well as my holiday gift ideas.  for the next couple of weeks, i’ll be posting some things that have caught my attention over the last year that would be good items to give or receive for christmas.  my first holiday gift suggestion is this filson oil finish tote bag.  filson’s website says it was designed for “hauling, shooting, and field gear”, but if you’re not into those things then you can use it as a work bag, a beach bag or a manly looking diaper bag.

good find: filson leather briefcase

gq picked a few of their favorite items from the new park and bond online store.  one of them was this filson leather field satchel (or briefcase if you don’t work in the field).  it’s an investment at $795, but one that will hold up for years to come.  you can give it to your kid one day.  he’ll thank you later.

if you haven’t heard of park and bond, head over to their site and do some browsing.  it’s basically an online men’s store for bloggers.  kind of takes the fun out of finding some stuff, but j. crew started it last year with their “in good company” collection.  not complaining; just saying.

bag it up

it occurred to me last week that i do not have a good way to transport my book, towel, and sunscreen from the house to the beach.  in the past, i’ve used an old northface backpack and it’s worked well, but it gives off a “hey i’m still in college” vibe that i’ve been trying to move past.  i started thinking about what i might need for my next trip to the beach and the answer is a tote bag.  if you think tote bags are girly, then you haven’t been paying attention.  there are plenty of manly options out there that will help you avoid looking like a mom taking her kids to the pool.  here’s a few of my favorites:

the bag above from w.m. j.mills & co is by far my favorite option for the beach.  it doesn’t get any more classic than a two-tone, canvas made bag with a lifetime warranty.
