after much consideration

“we’re really doing it though, aren’t we buddy?” (for reference see here).  after much consideration and help from a few friends, i settled on a pair of allen admonds moras.  i originally ordered the brown grain calf, but changed my mind after giving the chili burnished calf another look (thanks jrs).  i went with the brown standard welt as opposed to the natural standard, because i didn’t want it to be too light.  allen edmonds customer service was extremely helpful when i requested an order change (a real person actually picked up the phone).  now the waiting game begins.  i’ll do a follow up post when they arrive in 6 weeks.

the mora has returned

the allen edmonds mora has returned.  their version of the classic double monk was thought to be extinct, but after several emails and “pleas” from devoted fans, ae brought them back to life.  the bad news (if you want to call it that) is that they’re only available in their custom program which means they retail for $450 and will take 6-8 weeks to make it to your door.  there are 14 different leathers to choose from and 6 different soles – plus they are goodyear welted so they can be resoled.  thank you valet and dreams of perfection for breaking the news this morning.  i couldn’t have imagined a better way to start a month.

mark mcnairy in garden and gun

i’m hoping this picture looks a lot better on your computer than it does on my awful work computer (dell).  i caught this page in the newest issue of garden and gun with the avett brothers on the cover.  i have a love/hate relationship with mark mcnairy.  some of his collections are a little too off-the-wall for me – like the white bucks with the bright blue sole – but occasionally he will surprise me.  i almost wrecked my car when i saw these double monk bucks.  i’m a sucker for red brick soled shoes.  he seems to like them too since 70% of his shoes have them.  i also love the long wing boot he did with engineered garments.

on another note, i still don’t own any double monks because i can’t find any that i like.  i emailed lawrence of sartorially inclined while i was in new york to ask him where i could find a pair in a decent price range ($250-$450).  he told me you couldn’t get quality double monks for that price and to wait for his run of the mill ones to come out this spring.  my curiosity is piqued.  i’m looking forward to seeing those.

alden cordovan monk strap

i’m still searching for the perfect monk strap for fall.  i’ve never owned a pair before so i know i need to buy something that will last.  the shoe above – made by alden – looks like a perfect candidate.  it’s usa made with hand stained shelled cordovan.  the burgundy looks incredible and i can wear them with a navy or charcoal suit.  the only remaining question is whether or not i want to go the double monk route.  if allen edmonds were to bring back the mora (below), i’d buy a pair immediately.
