2016 wish list: black double monks

sidmonksblack1

it’s been a minute since i’ve talked about double monks.  that doesn’t mean i’m not wearing them once or twice a week.  i have a pair of brown ones, but i think it’s time to go to the dark side (sorry couldn’t resist a star wars reference).  i wear a suit to work every day, so i need to continue to add to my shoe arsenal.  my target is another pair of monks from sid mashburn.  they don’t get any better looking than these.

the ugliest shoes you’ll see all season

mhhp

this page in men’s health starts with “here’s one way to guarantee that every man will want to walk a mile in your shoes.”  excuse me.  what?  are we talking about the shoes listed under that copy.  if we are in fact talking about those shoes, then maybe it’s time to check yourself.  these are the ugliest shoes i’ve seen in a long time.  look it’s not my thing to get on here and crap all over someone’s design or product (i’m not qualified to do so), but these do not pass the eye test.  purple + back + gray camo = something bebop and rocksteady would wear on tmnt.  they’re also listed as “the mh must-have.”  really?  we, the readers of men’s health magazine, must have these shoes.  c’mon man.  you can do better than that, men’s health.  (please note the brand is not named to protect the guilty party.)

alfred sargent for j. crew

i went and did it.  i said i wouldn’t and i did it anyway. there’s a good reason for it, ok?  i wear my sid mashburn double monks almost every day.  they’re half a size too big for me and starting to look a little ragged.  rather than ordering another pair from sid, i decided to check out the alfred sargent for j. crew double monks, and i’m glad i did.  don’t get me wrong i love my mashburn monks, but variety is always welcome.

there are few differences between the two double monks strap shoes (alfred argent also makes sid’s). color wise the new ones are a little lighter than sid’s (not sure if you can tell from my shotty iphone photos). the only other difference is the toe. the j. crew double monks are less pointy than sid’s and fit my feet better. if you’re planning on making a purchase, go a .5 size down from your measured or street shoe size. they run big like most english made shoes.

sid mashburn double monks now in black and suede

the most talked about men’s shoe in the blogosphere, the double monk strap, is now available in black and suede from the internet’s most talked about men’s shop sid mashburn.  both look phenomenal.  my brown double monks have quickly become my favorite pair of kicks for work and weekend (i can’t wait to get them back by the way).  if you’ve been thinking about jumping on the double monks train, now is the time to do it.  get after these.  you won’t regret it.

double monks update

my day started off with a sour note this morning when my 3 week old sid mashburn double monks fell apart.  i was devastated until i called the store and explained to them the situation.  they assured me they would fix them at no charge and have them back to me in a week.  the gentleman on the phone said this has never happened before and couldn’t believe it had only been a couple of weeks.  i was surprised too, but i’m glad they’re going to take care of them.  i miss them already.

crockett and jones in men’s ex

for the uninformed, men’s ex is a japanese men’s style/shopping magazine with the motto “nice look nice life.”  i found this particular shot at mister crew.  i would encourage you to go check out his site if you have some time.  there’s some good stuff on there.  i grabbed this pic because the double monks look incredible.  sooner or later i’m going to have to join the double monk club.  it’s a matter or time and money.  i’m thinking my 30th birthday in new york will be a good time to purchase some new footwear.  check out those plaid pants on the right.

next purchase

i need a good pair of monks.  the ones above are made by brooks brothers.  i would go ahead and click buy if they made them in a dark brown or burgundy color.  the search will continue.
