women we appreciate: the women of tumblr (part 3)

wt1.jpg

i may be in the minority here, but i love the way women dress in the fall.  for my money, there is nothing sexier than a women in a nice pair of jeans (or leather pants for that matter).  it’s been a year since i’ve done a women we appreciate post.  we’ll call this one “women we appreciate: the women of tumblr (part 3 – fall edition).”  it has a nice ring to it.  none of these photos are mine, so i apologize for using them without permission.  if it’s yours and you want credit or for me to take it down, let me know.  thank you women of tumblr for being such smoke shows.  if any of you are single, holla at ya boy.

buying a barbour

barbourbuying

believe it or not i have not mentioned the word “barbour” on here since 2011.  that’s gotta be a joke, right?  i love this brand.  surely, it must have come up at some point.  a quick search tells me it hasn’t.  hmm…i digress.

with the temperature now dropping, it’s slowly becoming barbour season i.e. time to dust off the ol’ bedale and liddesdale.  (i had an international, but recently unloaded it because the tagged size wasn’t the same as the actual jacket size.  took me a year to figure it out.  always check the size on the label even if it’s hidden in a tiny pocket.)  if you’re new to barbour and like your clothes to fit, the sizing can be a bit of a headache.  for my personal sizing tips, click on the next page and i will walk you carefully through this difficult process.   Continue reading

on sale: nike tech fleece aw77 hoodie

nikehoodie

i’m not gonna lie i love a good hoodie.  i think nike makes some of the best.  recently they’ve started calling their hoodies and other fall weather gear “the tech pack.”  i don’t know what it means or why they’ve named it the tech pack, but it’s warm and comfortable and on sale.  i’m going to pick up this grey one before they run out of my size.

nike internationalist and nike air odyssey

nikeairo nikeintl

i’ve been on a big nike kick lately.  it makes me feel like a kid again.  (side note: when i was a kid, i went through a couple of years when everything i owned had to be nike related including my school binder, backpack, etc.)  with summer now over and before i turn to boots full time, i’m going to grab a pair of nikes to rock this fall.  currently, i’m trying to decide between these two models: the internationalist and the air odyssey.  for under and around $100, you can’t go wrong here.

oak street bootmakers trail socks

oakstreet1

good socks are hard to find.  once you find a pair that you like on your feet, you need to go ahead and buy 2 or 3 more pairs of the same socks.  trust me you will use them.  earlier this week oakstreet bootmakers released their own version the trail sock and they are amazing.  here are the stats: 85% recycled cotton; 13% nylon; and 2% spandex.  they are also made in the usa.  and do you want to know the best part?  they are only $8 a pair.  you read that right.  you can load up here, but don’t waste any time as they are going fast.

filson tin cloth cruiser jacket

filsoncruiser

denim jackets are a fall staple, but if you don’t think you can pull one off, consider this short cruiser jacket from filson.  it’s the perfect alternative to a levi’s trucker jacket.  it’s made from filson’s tough tin cloth with an oil finish which means it’s going to be stiff for the first several wears, but don’t be discouraged.  it will break in nicely and become one of your favorites in no time.

fall wish list: suede chelsea boots

mashchelsea1

fall is just around the corner.  fall is just around the corner.  fall is just around the corner.  if i say it enough, then maybe it will get here sooner.  it’s been 98º this weekend in nashville.  i’ve had enough.  it’s time for fall.  first thing on my fall wish list is a pair of suede chelsea boots like these from sid mashburn.  these particular boots have been on my wish list for a couple of years now, but the time feels right to finally make the purchase.  the plan is to hit atlanta sometime in september (braves game anyone?).  these will be coming back with me.

j. crew fall/winter 2012

frank muytgens is one of my favorite designers, because he makes things i can wear and afford. his j. crew f/w 2012 collection didn’t disappoint.  he kept things on the dark side by offering their usual fair in darker blues, purples, greys, and greens.  one thing that caught my eye was the green alden brogues on some of the models – especially when paired with purple socks.  i also spy some dark navy red wings that would look good on my feet.  solid collection all around.  here are some of my favorite looks:

j. crew sweater collective

i planned to do a post on the sweaters i liked this season from various stores/designers, but found about 10 i liked from j. crew.  i tend to buy most of my sweaters at j. crew because of the quality and price.  i’ll do a follow up post on other sweaters later this month.  until then here are my 5 favorite from j. crew:

shawl collar henley

cotton-cashmere v-neck

lambwool crewneck

lambswool fair isle

cashmere sweatshirt

acquired: barbour liddesdale

in anticipation of cooler weather, i bought a barbour liddesdale two weeks ago.  it’s been in the 70’s ever since.  not that i’m complaining, but i’d like to wear it sooner than later.  it’s a nice lightweight coat that’s perfect for the transition from fall to winter.  i went with the navy, because i’ve got an olive bedale.
