common projects chelsea boots in charcoal

754280_mrp_fr_l

i need these boots.  they’re sold out on mr. porter.  this brings a tear to at least one of my eyes.  i bought a pair of brown ones last summer.  they are my go-to kicks.  if you see a pair of these somewhere on the internet, please holler at ya boi.  i need them asap.

sale alert: penfield gibson

penfieldgibson

my favorite rain jacket is on sale at penfield.  the gibson.  sizes and colors are limited, but it’s marked down from $160 to $96.  that’s a steal.  i have the navy.  i ordered one in olive.  it’s pretty much the only rain jacket you’ll need all summer.

the tipped polo shirt

TIPPEDPOLO

polo shirts are awesome and should be a summertime wardrobe staple.  no, i’m not going to list the reason why or compile a list of my favorites.  (valet did that this morning and it’s impressive.)  what i will tell you is that i’m feeling these tipped polo shirts like the one above.  it’s a nice changeup when you want to give your magnum p.i. floral shirt a break (more on that at a later date).

nike lunar control vapor golf shoes

nike 3

nike golf shoes changed my life.  i think i’ve tried every other brand and nothing has come close to my nikes.  last season i bought a pair of fi impact nikes and they were the most comfortable golf shoe i’ve ever worn.  they’re beat to hell.  i need some new ones.  unfortunately, nike doesn’t sell the fi impacts anymore which is why i’m going to give these lunar control vapor golf shoes a whirl.  they’re on the pricier side, but they’re supposed to offer a little more support and traction which is crucial in the golf swing.  oh, and rory mcilroy wears them, so they must be good.

once again the baracuta g9

baracutanavy

i hope you know this jacket.  if you don’t know it, get to know it.  behold the baracuta g9.  it’s a classic.  i’ve blogged about it at least 3 times now.  yeah, it’s expensive as hell.  and yeah, it’s pretty basic, but it’s a jacket you need to own.  while everyone else is out there in last year’s bomber, you can carve your own path in the g9.

here’s the skinny on sizing: it’s slim fit.  here’s the other skinny on sizing: the size measurements are uk sizing.  what does that mean?  it means a 38 is not an american 38.  it fits more like an american 34-36.  size up.  if your jacket size is a 38, you’re going to need a 40 or 42.  want more proof?  i stole the graphic below straight from their website.  don’t say i didn’t warn you.

women we appreciate: the women of tumblr (part 3)

wt1.jpg

i may be in the minority here, but i love the way women dress in the fall.  for my money, there is nothing sexier than a women in a nice pair of jeans (or leather pants for that matter).  it’s been a year since i’ve done a women we appreciate post.  we’ll call this one “women we appreciate: the women of tumblr (part 3 – fall edition).”  it has a nice ring to it.  none of these photos are mine, so i apologize for using them without permission.  if it’s yours and you want credit or for me to take it down, let me know.  thank you women of tumblr for being such smoke shows.  if any of you are single, holla at ya boy.

another ledbury plug

ledburyshirtz

“they’re such beautiful shirts,” she sobbed, her voice muffled in the thick folds.  “it makes me sad because i’ve never seen such – such beautiful shirts before.”

-f. scott fitzgerald, the great gatsby

the other day my brother-in-law asked me for recommendations on a dress shirt.  the only one that came to mind was ledbury.  since i discovered ledbury, i haven’t bought anything but.  i had a lady come to my office and try to fit me in one of those made-to-fit brands and i told her it would take an act of congress for me to change brands.

i believe as you get older, you find brands you like and you stick with them.  my dad doesn’t buy anything but polo and brooks brothers.  it works for him.  in my limited time on this earth, i’ve found that ledbury dress shirts fit me the best.  one way i can tell they’re working for me is from the amount of compliments i get when i’m wearing one.  the blue shirt with the navy dots in the top right of this post averages 3 compliments per wear – true story – and that makes me feel good.

i’m not saying you should only buy ledbury shirts from here on out (you can if you want to).  what i’m saying is that when it comes to something as classic as a dress shirt, find a brand or two that you like and stick with them.  and be sure to buy quality, because they’ll last a lot longer.

if you’ve been sleeping under a rock and would like a little more info on ledbury, click here.  or if you want the cliffs notes, here you go: great story.  great brand.  great price.  great quality.

editor’s note: my father informed me last night that he now only buys ledbury shirts.  my apologies to brooks brothers and polo for the misinformation.

women we appreciate: the women of tumblr (part 2)

tum1

i may or may not have a tumblr (hint: i have one).  if you’ve been a reader for a couple of years, then you might remember my previous women of tumbr post (it can be found here).  not gonna lie my tumblr is mainly pictures of babes.  if that’s not your thing, then don’t check it out.  i don’t know any of these women, but i would like to one day.  seriously, how are there so many beautiful women on tumblr?  i don’t get it.  oh well.  it’s our gain.  enjoy these pics and check out i took the train if you have a spare hour of so.

mougin & piquard for j. crew

this is good timing (pun intended).  i need to upgrade my wrist watch situation.  i love my collection of timex watches, but i need something a little nicer for more formal events.  enter the new j. crew collaboration with mougin & piquard.

ernest mougin & paul piquard were two french ex-pats that moved to switzerland in the 1920’s and started a watch company with the goal to bring a parisian sensibility to swiss watchmaking.  the company changed hands in the 1960’s and went out of business several years later.

j. crew has teamed up with the good people at tourneau to recreate two mougin & piquard timepieces based on sketches discovered in their archives.  they look great and retail for $425.  i’m definitely adding one of these fine watches to my christmas list.

book review: icons of men’s style

i received my copy of icons of men’s style yesterday and couldn’t be happier.  it’s exactly what i expected/wanted.  it’s broken down into 7 chapters: outerwear, trousers, shoes, underwear, tailoring, shirts & sweaters, and accessories.  each chapter takes a garment in that category, tells the story, and names the icon(s) who made it popular.  below are a few shots of the book.  if you’ve ever looked up to mcqueen, dean, grant or other trailblazers of yesterday, then buy this book or buy it for a friend.  it’s money well spent.
