world’s best father’s day gift: the igrill mini

igrill

this has potential to be the worst photo of something ever posted on here and that’s saying a lot.  it shouldn’t matter though because what you have before you is the world’s best father’s day gift.  it’s called an igrill and it’s a meat thermometer that notifies your phone when your meat is ready.  it has pre-made settings to cook whatever you want, but you can also create your own settings.  it’s badass and something every grill expert needs – unless you’re an old curmudgeon that insists on guessing when your meat is ready or using some ancient grill technique you learned from your grandfather or someone really old.

rock in fashion

i love a good coffee table book.  i have a few that rotate year-round – the beatles anthology, the clash, u2 by u2, and a few others.  (notice a common theme there?)  i can’t say that i’ve read any of them, but that’s the beauty of coffee table books: you don’t have to read them.  i pick them up from time to time to check out the photos of some of my favorite bands through the years.  i hadn’t purchased anything from john varvatos (not really my scene) until i stumbled upon his recently released rock in fashion book.  it’s a homage to the music that changed his life and inspired his clothing line.  it’s a great collection of photos shot by some of the best rock and roll photographers of all time.  hail! hail! rock ‘n’ roll!  get yours here.

holiday gift idea: how to be a man by glenn o’brien

you’re probably thinking, “hey, i’m already man.  why would i need a book on how to be one.”  well, it never hurts to be reminded and who better to do it than the style guy glenn o’brien.  how to be a man is full of sartorial and etiquette advice that you can use in your daily life.  it’s a great book to receive or give this holiday season.

imogene + willie scout books

i had the good fortune of being in the right place at the right time this morning.  as i pulled into nashville’s imogene + willie, the ups man pulled in behind me with a box of goodies.  the team seemed to be excited about the delivery, so i stuck around to see what was in the box.  sure enough, they were imogene + willie scout books.  i was lucky to snag a couple before they go on sale tomorrow.

the i + w scout books come in a pack of 3 with 3 different covers.  there are 16 front to back pages of grid paper (32 to write on).  they measure 3 1/2 inches wide by 5 inches tall (1/2 inch shorter than field notes).  my favorite part of these particular pocket notebooks is the personalized note on the back (below):

that note says it all.  matt and carrie and the rest of the team put so much love into their products that you feel like they were made just for you.  be sure to check out www.imogeneandwillie.com tomorrow so you can order your own scout books and see the rest of their fall collection.

i write everything down – even if i never go back and read it.  these 48 page memo books from field notes (3 for $10) are perfect for someone like me.  they’re small enough to carry around in your back pocket and durable enough to rest on the floorboards of my car.   the retro writing on the cover also makes whatever your writing look a bit more interesting.

holiday gift idea

i saw this on valet this morning: the j. crew shirt of the month club.  for $695 j. crew will send the lucky recipient a shirt a month for the whole year.  it averages around $60 a shirt which is a pretty good deal.  just call 1.866.739.5944 and give them all the details.

holiday gift idea

life by keith richards.  finally an autobiography from keith richards.  i haven’t read life yet, but i can only imagine what’s inside.  it’s on my wish list this year.

holiday gift idea

it’s officially holiday time.  for the next several weeks i will be posting good gift ideas (or at least i think they are).  the first one is an “urban” fire pit.  you can’t beat it for the winter.  there’s nothing better than sitting or standing outside nursing a beer in the cold around a fire.  find one at your local hardware or grilling store.
