sale alert: penfield gibson

penfieldgibson

my favorite rain jacket is on sale at penfield.  the gibson.  sizes and colors are limited, but it’s marked down from $160 to $96.  that’s a steal.  i have the navy.  i ordered one in olive.  it’s pretty much the only rain jacket you’ll need all summer.

nike lunar control vapor golf shoes

nike 3

nike golf shoes changed my life.  i think i’ve tried every other brand and nothing has come close to my nikes.  last season i bought a pair of fi impact nikes and they were the most comfortable golf shoe i’ve ever worn.  they’re beat to hell.  i need some new ones.  unfortunately, nike doesn’t sell the fi impacts anymore which is why i’m going to give these lunar control vapor golf shoes a whirl.  they’re on the pricier side, but they’re supposed to offer a little more support and traction which is crucial in the golf swing.  oh, and rory mcilroy wears them, so they must be good.

once again the baracuta g9

baracutanavy

i hope you know this jacket.  if you don’t know it, get to know it.  behold the baracuta g9.  it’s a classic.  i’ve blogged about it at least 3 times now.  yeah, it’s expensive as hell.  and yeah, it’s pretty basic, but it’s a jacket you need to own.  while everyone else is out there in last year’s bomber, you can carve your own path in the g9.

here’s the skinny on sizing: it’s slim fit.  here’s the other skinny on sizing: the size measurements are uk sizing.  what does that mean?  it means a 38 is not an american 38.  it fits more like an american 34-36.  size up.  if your jacket size is a 38, you’re going to need a 40 or 42.  want more proof?  i stole the graphic below straight from their website.  don’t say i didn’t warn you.

shout out to outdoor voices

ovhoodie

if you’re reasonably hip (meaning you pay attention to cool shit) and exercise on occasion, then you’ve probably heard of outdoor voices.  they are a newer sportswear brand out of austin, tx and they’re awesome.  (i’ll get to that in a second.)

here’s how the story begins…last month i set out to get a new hoodie.  i wanted a lululemon hoodie, but the only hoodies they currently sell make you look like you’re from the future.  you would think they would have a go-to hoodie that they sell year round, but they don’t.  (if anyone working at lulu corporate reads this, please make a note.  thank you.)  anyway, i had heard good things about outdoor voices, so i decided to purchase the champ track hoodie.  it shipped the next day and was here in no time.

when i got it, i fell in love.  it’s everything i wanted in a hoodie.  i could wear it to the gym or out on the weekend.  in fact, i wore it for an entire weekend and then washed it that sunday night because i had worn it so much.  i washed it on cold and hung it to dry.  a couple of days later, i put it on and it felt like it had shrunk.  long story short i emailed the company and they sent me a brand new larger size hoodie without any questions.

their responsiveness blew me away.  they were on top of it immediately i.e. answered my email quickly and shipped the new one right away.  not many companies operate that way anymore.  thank you outdoor voices for your badass customer service.  i’m a fan and will be for life.  you can check out the rest of their stuff here.  it’s tight (i don’t think people still say that but whatever).

ledbury nashville lookbook featuring ron samuels

Nashville7

ledbury was in nashville last week shooting for their nashville themed lookbook and short run collection.  one of the individuals they picked for the shoot was my old man, ron samuels.  he’s been one of my style icons for as long as i can remember.  the dude is a sharp dresser.  you can head over to ledbury and see the whole lookbook featuring max and ben goldberg of the patternson house and other excellent restaurants and bars, phillip nappi of peter nappi, and my buddy jay wilkison of imogene + willie.  and don’t forget about the ledbury pop-up shop this friday and saturday at the peter nappi studio.

made in america: flint and tinder

want to know how many underwear companies are making their product in the us?  well, i don’t have an exact figure, but it’s not a lot.  out of the 50 leading underwear brands, only one company is making their underwear here in the us.  jake bronstein, an entrepreneur, plans to do something about it.  he’s started a kickstarter campaign to raise money for a new company called flint and tinder that will make “men’s basics” right here in the good ol’ us of a.  his goals for the new brand are:

1) high quality for superior comfort and durability

2) 100% made in the us

3) fairly priced

sounds like a winner to me.  the other cool part is that flint and tinder are creating jobs.  they’ll be made by a factory that’s had to downsize almost 70% in the last couple of years due to the poor economy.  for every 1000 pairs of underwear they sell per month, a new job is added to the assembly line.

you can head over to their kickstarter campaign to make a donation if you’d like.  if you donate $15, you get a free pair of underwear.  they set out to raise $30,000 and they’re now up to almost $200,000.  america, fuck yeah.

sid mashburn double monks now in black and suede

the most talked about men’s shoe in the blogosphere, the double monk strap, is now available in black and suede from the internet’s most talked about men’s shop sid mashburn.  both look phenomenal.  my brown double monks have quickly become my favorite pair of kicks for work and weekend (i can’t wait to get them back by the way).  if you’ve been thinking about jumping on the double monks train, now is the time to do it.  get after these.  you won’t regret it.

industry of all nations portenos saddle loafers

today i saw the image above on almost every tumblr i follow.  it’s jason bateman sporting a pair of industry of all nations loafers while filming his new movie the longest week.  i really like the way the saddle color looks with a navy suit.  i don’t know too much about industry of all nations except that they try to produce products in the countries they originated using materials and local businesses in those countries.  basically, when you buy these shoes, you help out a poorer country.  you might as well.  it’s the holiday season.
