once again the baracuta g9

baracutanavy

i hope you know this jacket.  if you don’t know it, get to know it.  behold the baracuta g9.  it’s a classic.  i’ve blogged about it at least 3 times now.  yeah, it’s expensive as hell.  and yeah, it’s pretty basic, but it’s a jacket you need to own.  while everyone else is out there in last year’s bomber, you can carve your own path in the g9.

here’s the skinny on sizing: it’s slim fit.  here’s the other skinny on sizing: the size measurements are uk sizing.  what does that mean?  it means a 38 is not an american 38.  it fits more like an american 34-36.  size up.  if your jacket size is a 38, you’re going to need a 40 or 42.  want more proof?  i stole the graphic below straight from their website.  don’t say i didn’t warn you.

j. crew suiting

hello.  how are you?  it’s been a minute since i posted something on here.  i am truly sorry.  i wish i could promise more posts on the reg, but 2016 has proven to be a crazy year.  for example, i met an amazing girl, my company was bought by another company, i’m getting a new dog, i lost 20 lbs…and a billion of other things that you’re probably not overly concerned with.  one thing that i’ve done that might pique your interest is update my suiting game at the request of the wonderful woman i am dating.

when i first met alex, i was repping a couple a couple of brooks brothers suits that i’ll admit i thought looked pretty good.  they were tailored albeit a little loose after the weight drop, but again i didn’t think they looked that bad.  i was wrong.  we met for lunch one day and while going to grab us water i turned around to find her staring at me.  without saying these exact words, she pretty much said, “that thing looks horrid and i will never eat lunch with you again if you continue to wear suits like that.”  point taken.  it was time to get a new suit.   Continue reading

essential: the fitted white dress shirt

Picture No. 10643448

i’m a bit of a francophile.  ever since going to paris in 2014, i’ve had an affinity for all things french including their style.  the other day, i was reading a blog post on how men in paris dress and the female who wrote the piece was discussing the appeal of the fitted white dress shirt.  she claimed that it could make any man look sexy.  duly noted.  she also mentioned leaving the top 2 buttons unbottoned (very european).  it got me thinking that a fitted white dress shirt is an essential piece to every man’s wardrobe.

i realize alex turner (above) is not french, but he’s from the uk and pulls off this look flawlessly.  honestly, most of us average dudes could rock this look (minus the oversized belt buckle of course).  the good news is that you can probably find a good quality fitted white dress shirt wherever you shop (j. crew, sid mashburn, ralph lauren, uniqlo, etc.).  i’m a big fan of the shirt below from french brand apc.  i guess that’s not really surprising given how i started this post.

first impression: ledbury

i’ve been hearing about ledbury since they started making shirts.  a friend of mine went to washington & lee with paul and paul.  i remember when he called me to tell me their story.  if you haven’t read it, you can find it here.  it’s incredible.  he urged me to order a couple of shirts, because they were about to blow up.  he was right.  over the past few years, ledbury have been mentioned in every men’s magazine i read and almost every blog on my google reader.  last week, i found out why.  their shirts are perfect.  they’re made with less fabric in the waist and torso to create a slimming effect aka a perfect fit without being “slim-fit.”  when you’re used to billowy brooks brothers dress shirts, it’s a welcome change.  most of my future dress shirts will now come from ledbury.  keep up the good work, pauls.

the baracuta g9 slim fit jacket

today one of my friends offered me his old baracuta jacket.  he had outgrown it and needed a bigger size.  i tried it on and unfortunately it’s slightly too big.  unzipped it might have worked, but zipped the sides poke out too much.  i’m not super skinny but i definitely like a snug fit when it comes to jackets.  this got me thinking: it’s finally time to buy one of these damn things.  they’re pretty much essential to a man’s closet.  i guess i need to stop buying so many pairs of boots.  check out mcqueen in his:

if you’re looking for a cheaper model, check out polo’s version here.  i’ve seen these in person.  they look good too.

undecided: slim fit cargo pants

i’m noticing a lot of slim fit cargo pants for the fall.  i’ve always been of the mind that i do not do cargo anything, but some of the ones i’ve seen look solid – like the steven alan for dockers above.  run of the mill shop carries a pair from mark mcnairy that don’t look too bad either.  i might sit this round out, but i’m undecided at the moment.
