once again the baracuta g9

baracutanavy

i hope you know this jacket.  if you don’t know it, get to know it.  behold the baracuta g9.  it’s a classic.  i’ve blogged about it at least 3 times now.  yeah, it’s expensive as hell.  and yeah, it’s pretty basic, but it’s a jacket you need to own.  while everyone else is out there in last year’s bomber, you can carve your own path in the g9.

here’s the skinny on sizing: it’s slim fit.  here’s the other skinny on sizing: the size measurements are uk sizing.  what does that mean?  it means a 38 is not an american 38.  it fits more like an american 34-36.  size up.  if your jacket size is a 38, you’re going to need a 40 or 42.  want more proof?  i stole the graphic below straight from their website.  don’t say i didn’t warn you.

new balance 247 sneakers in olive

greennb

last week j. crew released a new collaboration with new balance featuring some stylish workout gear.  being that i’m quite partial to lulu and now outdoor voices, i’m not going to jump on any of the clothes portion of this collaboration, but that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t.  you can check out the full collection here.  there are some really good pieces.  what i am going to do is grab a pair of these olive green kicks you see before you because the color is too good to pass up and they look ridiculously comfortable.  i’ll report back as soon as i have them in my possession.

retrosuperfuture for a.p.c. sunglasses

apcsunglasses

summer hasn’t technically arrived (we’ll have to wait until June 21st to make it official), but that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t be working on your shades game.  my recommendation – in addition to the usual wayfarerers, clubmasters, etc. – is this pair of retrosuperfuture for a.p.c. sunglasses.  there really isn’t much to them except they’re handmade in italy for everyone’s favorite french denim brand.  who’s feeling like a trip to europe all of a sudden?  *raises hand*

golf kit 2015

golfkit2015

i’ve caught the golf bug.  i always get it around this time of year.  it usually last for 3 or 4 months and then disappears when the weather gets cold.  i’m not a great golfer, but i aspire to be.  the first step to reaching that goal is to look like a golfer.  with that said, here’s what i’m wearing and swinging this summer:

travis mathews golf shirt – these shirts are amazing.  they are fitted and have a retro feel to them.  if they’re good enough for bubba, they’re good enough for me.

ecco golf shoes – i used to think these looked ridiculous.  not anymore.  i couldn’t play without them.  they are the most comfortable golf shoes on the market and i’ve pretty much tried them all.  not even joking.

yeti rambler – it will keep your drink cool for days.  days.  did you hear that?  days.

scotty cameron newport 2.5 putter – the very first “big” item i ever purchased with my own money was a scotty cameron putter.  i now own 4 of them.  i refuse to putt with anything else.

titleist pro v1 golf balls – the best golf balls on the market (in my opinion).

masters tour visor – i realize tour visors are super fratty, but i don’t care.  they are essential to my golf game.  no link provided, but you may be able to find one on ebay.

callaway big bertha alpha 815 driver – i must confess.  i don’t own this driver, but i will before the end of the summer.  i bought two callaway fairway woods last year and trust that this driver is the best on the market.  i’ll keep you posted.

arsenal ball marker poker chips – you need something to mark your ball with, so why not show your support for the best football club on the planet.

scotty cameron belt buckle – you will never catch me in a white belt, but that doesn’t mean i’m not going to rock a dope belt buckle while i’m taking your $3 (nassau, bitches).

j. crew 9″ stanton shorts – 9″ is the perfect shorts length for the golf course.  please no chubbies or stand up shorts.  leave your balls in your bag (see what i did there?  i am hilarious.)

summer shoes

VansSk8

vans are probably my all time favorite shoes.  there’s no telling how many pairs i’ve owned over the years.  every spring / summer i buy a new pair.  it’s usually authentics or slip-ons, but this year i decided to change it up and go with the sk8-hi.  there’s really not much to them – they’re canvas and suede with the vans vulcanized signature waffle outsole.  it’s been a long time since i skated, but that doesn’t mean i can’t relive my not-so-glory days every once in a while.

back in stock: adidas stan smith sneakers

Screen Shot 2014-02-19 at 7.54.18 PM

y’all, adidas is messing with our heads.  sometime in 2012 (or early 2013), they took away two of my favorite shoes: the rod laver and the stan smith.  then they announced the return of the stan smith in early 2014.  the drop date happened in late january and i missed the boat by a day or two.  i contacted adidas to ask when they were going to restock the shoes and they said they didn’t know.  (tanks fer nuttin’, adidas.)  last wednesday, i stopped by the adidas store in chicago and they were stocked with stan smiths.  i found my size (they run true) and asked if they would ship them to me.  the very kind salesclerk said adidas stores didn’t ship, so i told her i’d wait until they were restocked online.  (i had a small bag with me and didn’t want to carry them in the box on the plane.)  yesterday, i got an email announcing they were restocked online and i jumped on it.  i tell you this ridiculous and pointless story because they are now in stock at www.adidas.com.  hurry and jump on your size before it’s too late.  and adidas please just keep them in stock and stop messing with our heads.

current obsession: red wing oxfords

it’s tough to justify wearing red wing work boots in the spring and summertime if you don’t technically need them for work.  ryan gosling is the exception, but he’s on a whole different level than you and me.  lucky for us, red wing makes a couple different styles of oxfords to solve this warm weather problem.  here are two options i have my eye on: 1) the red wing for j. crew plain toe oxford and 2) the red wing work oxford.  i don’t think i can go wrong with either one.

sizing tip: both of these oxfords are made on the 23 last which is the same last as the 875s, so you’re going to want to size down .5 or a whole size for them to fit correctly.

brooks brothers baseball jacket

i’m glad to see the baseball jacket continue to make a resurgence.  one of my favorites of the season comes from ivy league staple brooks brothers.  they didn’t try to modernize the jacket.  instead, they opted for the classic two-tone, snap-button baseball jacket we saw growing up on the sandlot.  if you’re looking for a nice light weight jacket for the spring, give this one a look.

want: mark mcnairy saddle shoes

i’ve given in to the hype.  mcnairy makes incredible shoes.  these two-tone saddle shoes from his new amsterdam collection are flawless.  now i just need to figure out where i can order a pair from – preferably in the states.  #suckerforredbricksoles

j. press online rotating pictures

i received an email this morning from j. press with the title “spring/summer collection 2011.”  naturally i opened it immediately and clicked the link to the website.  i love j. press’ website.  it’s simple, understated, and doesn’t use a ton of flash.  it’s exactly like their clothes.

i’m not a website or graphic designer by any means, but i realize functionality is key to good design.  so many websites load up on flash making their sites nightmares to load and navigate around.  j. press online has their navigation in blue on the left side of the site.  click on any of the buttons and they take you to what you want to look at.  it’s good to see that j. press doesn’t feel the need to make their website hip because preppy is back in style.

i thought the rotating images they just added for spring were worthy of a post.  again, there’s nothing too flashy about the images, because the products speak for themselves.  any of those ties would be a fine addition to your collection.  i don’t fancy myself a big ribbon belt fan, but those look perfect for the spring.

j. press is a classy place.  if you’re in new york, d.c., boston or new haven, be sure to go by there and check out their spring collection.  if you’re not, then their website will do you just fine.
