common projects chelsea boots in charcoal

754280_mrp_fr_l

i need these boots.  they’re sold out on mr. porter.  this brings a tear to at least one of my eyes.  i bought a pair of brown ones last summer.  they are my go-to kicks.  if you see a pair of these somewhere on the internet, please holler at ya boi.  i need them asap.

sale alert: penfield gibson

penfieldgibson

my favorite rain jacket is on sale at penfield.  the gibson.  sizes and colors are limited, but it’s marked down from $160 to $96.  that’s a steal.  i have the navy.  i ordered one in olive.  it’s pretty much the only rain jacket you’ll need all summer.

the tipped polo shirt

TIPPEDPOLO

polo shirts are awesome and should be a summertime wardrobe staple.  no, i’m not going to list the reason why or compile a list of my favorites.  (valet did that this morning and it’s impressive.)  what i will tell you is that i’m feeling these tipped polo shirts like the one above.  it’s a nice changeup when you want to give your magnum p.i. floral shirt a break (more on that at a later date).

the best no show socks on the market

stancenoshow

it’s officially hot af (as f**k) outside which means it’s time to show a little ankle.  the best way to accomplish this summertime task is through no show socks.  it may sound like an easy thing to buy, but it’s not my friend.  i’ve tried out several pairs and found the best one’s on the market.  stance’s no show socks are a cut above the rest.  high five!  they fit like a glove and don’t fall down while you’re wearing them – which is exactly what you want from a no show sock duh.  ordering tip: buy a size down than whatever they recommended.  you’ll thank me later.  you can get a 3 pack here for $25.  that is a frickin’ deal.

nike lunar control vapor golf shoes

nike 3

nike golf shoes changed my life.  i think i’ve tried every other brand and nothing has come close to my nikes.  last season i bought a pair of fi impact nikes and they were the most comfortable golf shoe i’ve ever worn.  they’re beat to hell.  i need some new ones.  unfortunately, nike doesn’t sell the fi impacts anymore which is why i’m going to give these lunar control vapor golf shoes a whirl.  they’re on the pricier side, but they’re supposed to offer a little more support and traction which is crucial in the golf swing.  oh, and rory mcilroy wears them, so they must be good.

“black nashville flag” t-shirt

blackflagtee

somewhere between being called the “it city” and now, nashville got really really annoying.  more people moved here.  more condos were built.  more people.  more cranes.  more people…you get the idea.  we are a growing city on steroids.  it’s madness.

with this influx of people and traffic came this weird obsession with showing pride in nashville.  hats and clothing popped up out of nowhere bearing nashville’s name or likeness.  most of it i’ve shrugged at, but last week i saw a shirt that i absolutely had to have: this black nashville flag shirt from project 615.  kudos to the designer that came up with it.  if you don’t know the band black flag and their iconic logo, here’s what the original looks like:

blackflag2

black flag were one of the founding fathers of hardcore punk.  like most other punk bands, they were all about a little anarchy.  in the early 2000’s, nashville had some of that same rebel spirit which is a big reason why people started calling nashville “cool” and the “it city.”  we’ve lost that in recent years.  my hope is that one day we’ll get some of that swagger back that made us so special in the first place.  this may be just a clever t-shirt, but i like to think it’s a homage to the pre-boomtown nashville.  whatever it is i dig it and will wear it with pride.

need: blundstone boots

blundstonesi’ve been traveling a ton lately – not that i’m complaining because i love to travel.  when we’re in a new city, we tend to walk somewhere around 8-10 miles per day which means you gotta have the right footwear on to make that happen.  most trips you can find me in my red wing iron rangers, but lately they’ve become a bit heavy and uncomfortable.  oh, and you have to take them off in airport security even if you’re pre-check because of the metal.  it’s annoying.

i’ve been doing a little research for some new travel boots.  my main criteria are as follows: light, comfortable, and an easy transition from day to night.  enter the blundstone 500 series.  these are the classic australian work boots that can take a beating during the day and not get you kicked out of a nice restaurant at night (well, maybe not super nice but they’re not nikes ok).

i’ll confess, i bought a pair several years ago, but returned them do to sizing issues.  i ended up never buying the bigger size.  it might be time to try again.  i’ve heard only good things about them.  anybody have any experience with these?  if you’re debating between the 500 and 550, this dude made a really great video regarding the subtle differences.  really great job, youtube reviewer.

once again the baracuta g9

baracutanavy

i hope you know this jacket.  if you don’t know it, get to know it.  behold the baracuta g9.  it’s a classic.  i’ve blogged about it at least 3 times now.  yeah, it’s expensive as hell.  and yeah, it’s pretty basic, but it’s a jacket you need to own.  while everyone else is out there in last year’s bomber, you can carve your own path in the g9.

here’s the skinny on sizing: it’s slim fit.  here’s the other skinny on sizing: the size measurements are uk sizing.  what does that mean?  it means a 38 is not an american 38.  it fits more like an american 34-36.  size up.  if your jacket size is a 38, you’re going to need a 40 or 42.  want more proof?  i stole the graphic below straight from their website.  don’t say i didn’t warn you.

shout out to outdoor voices

ovhoodie

if you’re reasonably hip (meaning you pay attention to cool shit) and exercise on occasion, then you’ve probably heard of outdoor voices.  they are a newer sportswear brand out of austin, tx and they’re awesome.  (i’ll get to that in a second.)

here’s how the story begins…last month i set out to get a new hoodie.  i wanted a lululemon hoodie, but the only hoodies they currently sell make you look like you’re from the future.  you would think they would have a go-to hoodie that they sell year round, but they don’t.  (if anyone working at lulu corporate reads this, please make a note.  thank you.)  anyway, i had heard good things about outdoor voices, so i decided to purchase the champ track hoodie.  it shipped the next day and was here in no time.

when i got it, i fell in love.  it’s everything i wanted in a hoodie.  i could wear it to the gym or out on the weekend.  in fact, i wore it for an entire weekend and then washed it that sunday night because i had worn it so much.  i washed it on cold and hung it to dry.  a couple of days later, i put it on and it felt like it had shrunk.  long story short i emailed the company and they sent me a brand new larger size hoodie without any questions.

their responsiveness blew me away.  they were on top of it immediately i.e. answered my email quickly and shipped the new one right away.  not many companies operate that way anymore.  thank you outdoor voices for your badass customer service.  i’m a fan and will be for life.  you can check out the rest of their stuff here.  it’s tight (i don’t think people still say that but whatever).

2016 wish list: black double monks

sidmonksblack1

it’s been a minute since i’ve talked about double monks.  that doesn’t mean i’m not wearing them once or twice a week.  i have a pair of brown ones, but i think it’s time to go to the dark side (sorry couldn’t resist a star wars reference).  i wear a suit to work every day, so i need to continue to add to my shoe arsenal.  my target is another pair of monks from sid mashburn.  they don’t get any better looking than these.
