the tipped polo shirt

TIPPEDPOLO

polo shirts are awesome and should be a summertime wardrobe staple.  no, i’m not going to list the reason why or compile a list of my favorites.  (valet did that this morning and it’s impressive.)  what i will tell you is that i’m feeling these tipped polo shirts like the one above.  it’s a nice changeup when you want to give your magnum p.i. floral shirt a break (more on that at a later date).

the best no show socks on the market

stancenoshow

it’s officially hot af (as f**k) outside which means it’s time to show a little ankle.  the best way to accomplish this summertime task is through no show socks.  it may sound like an easy thing to buy, but it’s not my friend.  i’ve tried out several pairs and found the best one’s on the market.  stance’s no show socks are a cut above the rest.  high five!  they fit like a glove and don’t fall down while you’re wearing them – which is exactly what you want from a no show sock duh.  ordering tip: buy a size down than whatever they recommended.  you’ll thank me later.  you can get a 3 pack here for $25.  that is a frickin’ deal.

new balance 247 sneakers in olive

greennb

last week j. crew released a new collaboration with new balance featuring some stylish workout gear.  being that i’m quite partial to lulu and now outdoor voices, i’m not going to jump on any of the clothes portion of this collaboration, but that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t.  you can check out the full collection here.  there are some really good pieces.  what i am going to do is grab a pair of these olive green kicks you see before you because the color is too good to pass up and they look ridiculously comfortable.  i’ll report back as soon as i have them in my possession.

adidas reissuing rod laver shoes

laver1

adidas rod laver tennis shoes might be my favorite tennis shoes of all time.  i’ve run through close to 3 pairs.  that might not sound like a lot, but i bought my first pair when i was a sophomore in college.  that was forever ago.  rumor has it they’re reissuing the original shoe from the 60’s.  this is good news because 2 years ago they added a new outsole that increased the weight of the shoe about 20 pounds or at least it felt like it.  the reissues were supposed to be on adidas.com on thursday, but i didn’t see them when i just checked.  i will continue to check back until i get these shoes.  they will be mine.  oh yes they will be mine.

retrosuperfuture for a.p.c. sunglasses

apcsunglasses

summer hasn’t technically arrived (we’ll have to wait until June 21st to make it official), but that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t be working on your shades game.  my recommendation – in addition to the usual wayfarerers, clubmasters, etc. – is this pair of retrosuperfuture for a.p.c. sunglasses.  there really isn’t much to them except they’re handmade in italy for everyone’s favorite french denim brand.  who’s feeling like a trip to europe all of a sudden?  *raises hand*

golf kit 2015

golfkit2015

i’ve caught the golf bug.  i always get it around this time of year.  it usually last for 3 or 4 months and then disappears when the weather gets cold.  i’m not a great golfer, but i aspire to be.  the first step to reaching that goal is to look like a golfer.  with that said, here’s what i’m wearing and swinging this summer:

travis mathews golf shirt – these shirts are amazing.  they are fitted and have a retro feel to them.  if they’re good enough for bubba, they’re good enough for me.

ecco golf shoes – i used to think these looked ridiculous.  not anymore.  i couldn’t play without them.  they are the most comfortable golf shoes on the market and i’ve pretty much tried them all.  not even joking.

yeti rambler – it will keep your drink cool for days.  days.  did you hear that?  days.

scotty cameron newport 2.5 putter – the very first “big” item i ever purchased with my own money was a scotty cameron putter.  i now own 4 of them.  i refuse to putt with anything else.

titleist pro v1 golf balls – the best golf balls on the market (in my opinion).

masters tour visor – i realize tour visors are super fratty, but i don’t care.  they are essential to my golf game.  no link provided, but you may be able to find one on ebay.

callaway big bertha alpha 815 driver – i must confess.  i don’t own this driver, but i will before the end of the summer.  i bought two callaway fairway woods last year and trust that this driver is the best on the market.  i’ll keep you posted.

arsenal ball marker poker chips – you need something to mark your ball with, so why not show your support for the best football club on the planet.

scotty cameron belt buckle – you will never catch me in a white belt, but that doesn’t mean i’m not going to rock a dope belt buckle while i’m taking your $3 (nassau, bitches).

j. crew 9″ stanton shorts – 9″ is the perfect shorts length for the golf course.  please no chubbies or stand up shorts.  leave your balls in your bag (see what i did there?  i am hilarious.)

back in stock: adidas stan smith sneakers

Screen Shot 2014-02-19 at 7.54.18 PM

y’all, adidas is messing with our heads.  sometime in 2012 (or early 2013), they took away two of my favorite shoes: the rod laver and the stan smith.  then they announced the return of the stan smith in early 2014.  the drop date happened in late january and i missed the boat by a day or two.  i contacted adidas to ask when they were going to restock the shoes and they said they didn’t know.  (tanks fer nuttin’, adidas.)  last wednesday, i stopped by the adidas store in chicago and they were stocked with stan smiths.  i found my size (they run true) and asked if they would ship them to me.  the very kind salesclerk said adidas stores didn’t ship, so i told her i’d wait until they were restocked online.  (i had a small bag with me and didn’t want to carry them in the box on the plane.)  yesterday, i got an email announcing they were restocked online and i jumped on it.  i tell you this ridiculous and pointless story because they are now in stock at www.adidas.com.  hurry and jump on your size before it’s too late.  and adidas please just keep them in stock and stop messing with our heads.

ledbury swim trunks

ledburyswim

don’t worry, it’s not too late in the summer for a new pair of trunks.  if you’re a fan or ledbury (and even if you’re not), you need to check out their new hilliard swim trunks.  there’s a nice little story about the idea behind the swim trunks that can be found here on their blog.  but if you’re not into reading, then know that they’re not too baggy and not too slim, they’re made of nylon, and they hit slightly above the knee.  what more do you need in a swim trunk?  you can cop a pair here.

summer scent: lacoste white

on a recent guy’s trip, a friend of mine noticed my cologne in the bathroom and asked me why the hell i used it.  it struck me as an odd thing to ask about.  i thought cologne was something that all men used.  i’m not embarrassed to admit that when i reached my teenage years, i applied cologne liberally thinking that women would smell me from a far and fall in love instantly.  i soon found out that a lot of cologne does not in fact attract women, but instead repels them.  glad i learned this lesson early in life.

i like the way cologne smells and have been looking for a signature scent for the last several years.  i tend to buy the travel sizes so i don’t have to invest in one long term.  last fall, i made the executive decision to go old school ralph lauren in the cold months (the green bottle your dad probably wore – more on this later in the year).  with that said, i want something a little lighter in the warmer months.  i’ve been experimenting with a few different brands and finally found something i love: lacoste white.  i’m not going to try and describe how it smells, because i would most likely sound like a complete douche.  all i know is that it smells like summer and that’s good enough for me.  treat yourself to a bottle.  your lady will thank you.

ebbets field flannels twill ball caps

i’m obsessed with baseball hats.  i tend to stick to current teams, but it’s hard to when ebett’s field flannels keeps nailing the reproductions.  this summer they’ve teamed with j. crew to offer twill versions of more teams from baseball’s past.  since i have a plethora of navy hats (i’m a yankees and braves fan – don’t hate), i decided to go with this red brooklyn bushwicks cap to add some variety to my headwear.  i didn’t take it off last weekend.  it’s the perfect summer hat.  the only problem with this particular cap is that one of my friends asked if the “b” stood for bayside.  i should have told him it did.
