“black nashville flag” t-shirt

blackflagtee

somewhere between being called the “it city” and now, nashville got really really annoying.  more people moved here.  more condos were built.  more people.  more cranes.  more people…you get the idea.  we are a growing city on steroids.  it’s madness.

with this influx of people and traffic came this weird obsession with showing pride in nashville.  hats and clothing popped up out of nowhere bearing nashville’s name or likeness.  most of it i’ve shrugged at, but last week i saw a shirt that i absolutely had to have: this black nashville flag shirt from project 615.  kudos to the designer that came up with it.  if you don’t know the band black flag and their iconic logo, here’s what the original looks like:

black flag were one of the founding fathers of hardcore punk.  like most other punk bands, they were all about a little anarchy.  in the early 2000’s, nashville had some of that same rebel spirit which is a big reason why people started calling nashville “cool” and the “it city.”  we’ve lost that in recent years.  my hope is that one day we’ll get some of that swagger back that made us so special in the first place.  this may be just a clever t-shirt, but i like to think it’s a homage to the pre-boomtown nashville.  whatever it is i dig it and will wear it with pride.

masters “patron” t-shirt

patronshirt

no one really needs a new t-shirt, but this is one you can’t miss.  we’re 14 days away from masters week 2017 and to celebrate classic georgia has made their very own “patron” t-shirt.  they nailed the colors.  it’s perfect.  i ordered one immediately.  do yourself a favor and do the same, so that it will arrive in time for the greatest week in sports.  i’m already dreaming about cheap beer and pimento cheese sandwiches.  it can’t get here soon enough.

yeezus indian headress t-shirt

i bought this t-shirt.  this is not a joke.  i think it’s f**king awesome.  it reminded me of the grateful dead x wes lang t-shirt that i neglected to buy last year.  leave it to kanye to create something so next level that it almost completely contradicts his personal brand (or does it? i can’t keep up).

i missed his show in nashville the other night.  it looked amazing from what i saw on instagram.  i hope i can catch it in another city, but if that doesn’t happen, at least i’ll have this badass indian headress t-shirt (that’s funny on so many levels).  you can get your very own here if you’re interested in that kind of thing.

mcqueen on set

mscquuenonset2.1

this picture needs no explanation.  there was no one cooler than steve mcqueen.  few guys can pull off the white v-neck t-shirt quite like mcqueen did in between takes on the set of bullitt.  but, hey, if you want to try, here’s a good starting point:

nashville love

iwnashhat

i’m in love with my city.  no apologies.  i realize there’s a whole other world out there, but i can visit that world on weekends and vacations.  i’m glad to see nashville’s own imogene + willie loves this city as much as i do.  they’ve recently added a nashville ball cap – celebrating nashville’s baseball history – and a limited edition t-shirt featuring the words – you guessed it – “nashville” on it.  i promise not to wear both at the same time.

bad news: the t-shirt is sold out, but it’s still great to look at.  fingers crossed they’ll make some more.

top of the heap at red clay soul

jay over at red clay soul has been doing a feature called “top of the heap” where he’s asked a couple of bloggers to send him a picture and a brief description one of their favorite things.  i was fortunate to be included and to have my entry posted this morning.  here’s what i wrote for rcs:

my favorite piece in my whole closet is this t-shirt from my high school.  it was given to me on the first day of my freshman year.  it was supposed to be just for gym class, but every student wore theirs outside of school.  it was like a rite of passage: you made it to high school; you got the grey mba t-shirt.  they changed gym shirt companies my sophomore year and switched to a cheaper, starchier material and a lighter color of grey.  i’ve had this one now for 15 years and it’s still in great shape despite several girlfriends in college trying to steal it and one roommate offering me $200 for it.  there’s a lot of history in this shirt.

thanks again, jay.  i’m lovin’ the “top of the heap” series.

homage to the usa

extreme patriotism expressed by frat guys in american flag t-shirts with eagles on them is pretty obnoxious.  this throwback “usa” t-shirt from homage is not.  it may be a little late to order for your independence day celebration, but it wouldn’t hurt you to wear year round.  homage has some good looking vintage-styled t-shirts for your shopping pleasure.  i would encourage you to check them out if you have some time.
