happy masters week

mastershat

it’s masters week.  this has to be the best week of the year.  my dad and i hit the monday practice round.  i left with more loot than i probably should have including this vintage looking hat.  don’t quote me on this, but i believe they introduced it in 2013.  like the tour visors, it sells out quickly.  i did a little research (i.e. 15 second google search) to see if i could find a masters hat from the 70’s that looked like this one, but it appears to be a new design made to look vintage.  normally, i would scoff at something like this, but not this hat – i’m into it.

you didn’t ask, but i’m going to give you my picks this year.  i think bubba wins again.  he was drilling the ball on monday.  tough to bet against him.  if you’re looking for some wildcards, check out hideki matsuyama, branden grace, gary woodland, and russell henley.

weekend kicks: nike air max 1

airmax1

for the last year or so, my go-to weekend kicks have been nike air max 1s.  they are one of my all-time favorite sneakers and the best part is that you can find them pretty much anywhere.  you don’t have to spend months looking for a pair to match your style (i’m looking at you air jordan 3).  there are plenty of colorways available like the grey / red air max 1 premiums you see above (and below).  i’m not sure when they drop, but i will be copping a pair.  for more info, click here.

new beckham boots from imogene + willie

damn you imogene + willie for making so much good stuff like these newly released “jump” boots.  since i live and work down the street from their nashville store, it’s just too easy to go in there and spend money.  i saw these on their blog last night and had to mention them.  they are vintage paratrooper boots cut down slightly above the ankle with brand new white cushion soles.  david beckham is already fan (pictured below) which is why they’ve been dubbed “the beckham.”  just to clarify: becks was not in nashville – that photo was taken in la.  i’m going to go by there this afternoon and try not to buy them.

homage to the usa

extreme patriotism expressed by frat guys in american flag t-shirts with eagles on them is pretty obnoxious.  this throwback “usa” t-shirt from homage is not.  it may be a little late to order for your independence day celebration, but it wouldn’t hurt you to wear year round.  homage has some good looking vintage-styled t-shirts for your shopping pleasure.  i would encourage you to check them out if you have some time.

nike vintage waffle racer x j.crew

they’ve gone and done it again.  j. crew has partnered with a classic brand to offer a classic shoe that we’ve all known and loved.  i’m all for it as long as they’re not marked up like the new balance kicks.  this time they’ve joined forces with nike to bring you the vintage waffle racer.

the waffle design is more than 30 years old.  it was discovered when nike co-founder bill bowerman was trying to find something that would better grip the new track at the university of oregon.  he poured liquid rubber into his wife’s waffle iron and used the results for his new running shoes.  unreal.

i was actually trying to find a pair of these a month or two ago and was going the ebay route.  this partnership came at a good time.  i think i’m going with the red.  you can buy yours here.

new warby parker frames for 2011

fresh from my inbox: warby parker has released some new frames for 2011.  you can see the rest at their website.  if you don’t know the deal with warby parker, here’s the skinny: they make vintage inspired frames for $95 and for every pair they sell they give a pair to someone in need.  why wouldn’t you buy glasses from them?  i’ve made it all the way through the ordering process twice but don’t know my pupilary distance and have been too lazy to go get it measured.  i’m gonna do it this week.

vintage barbour ad

i feel like the only thing missing is ron burgandy.  it also looks like a poster for the original get carter.  i like it.
